Global demand for LED horticulture lighting in greenhouse is on the rise due to the impact of global climate change and urbanization on traditional agriculture.
Although blue and red LED garden lighting in planting green leafy vegetables, seed germination, or flowering has been much used, but the LED chip maker, lighting equipment manufacturers and plant factories needed for each of the plants the best spectrum has not reached a consensus, because different species have different growth cycle and need different growth conditions. Therefore, LED horticulture lighting solutions are very diverse in terms of spectral formulations.
In 2017, Mr Hui (renamed philips lighting) teamed up with Russia‘s largest vegetable grower, agro-inwest, to undertake what was then the world‘s largest LED gardening lighting project. The two sides will expand the area of the greenhouse equipped with LED horticulture lighting from 25 hectares to 68.5 hectares in 2018.
Germany‘s Osram Licht has also made full use of its advantages in lighting, adding to its push into LED horticulture with acquisitions including Agrilution, a German vertical farming developer, and Fluence Bioengineering, an American LED horticulture developer.
GE announced a new LED vertical farm project in the UK, with linear ventilation gardening lighting for farms by Current. The project is expected to start producing vegetables in the third quarter of 2018, with annual production expected to increase to 420 metric tons.
South Korea‘s LG Innotek has also announced that it has entered the horticulture LED market and launched 30 LED horticulture lighting products, including ultraviolet LED lights, earlier in July 2018.The 30 LED horticulture lighting products vary in irradiance Angle, spectral wavelength and lighting quality.
Foxconn has also transformed an old factory building in China into a plant factory that covers more than 5,000 square meters. The plant, which claims to be the world‘s largest, has 14-storey cultivation racks, LED lighting and hydroponic liquids, and can grow up to 2.5 tonnes of vegetables a day.The plant produces adjustments, hydroponic supplies and harvests automatically. In addition, foxconn will set up a database to collect plant growth data and environmental parameters from the plant plant, in order to copy the model to other plant plants and provide reference for operators of small and medium-sized plant plants.
The japan-based company has also invested nearly 2 billion yen ($18 million) in a plant at its research and development center in Shanghai, eastern China, for the development of vegetables and Chinese herbs.Mitsubishi chemical and online shopping operator jd.com have also set up vegetable planting plants in China.LED epitaxial wafers and chipmaker sanan optoelectronics and institute of botany, Chinese academy of sciences have jointly set up a joint venture - fujian zhongke biological co., LTD., to jointly build the plant plant factory of zhongke sanan.Currently, about 300 companies operate plants in China, of which 50% are in the south and 30% in the east.
Taiwan LED epitaxial chip and chipmaker chiyuan optronics said customers for horticultural lighting LED chips have increased to 5-6, and corresponding revenue will increase by nearly 50 percent year-on-year in 2018.
